I list all these bewildering sizes and page counts because I'm curious why there are so many versions, and what the difference might be between thosewith 210 (or 212) pages and those with 258. I ordered the $14.99 paperback. It's a scan of the original published by J & J Harper in 1833. No author is identified, and the title page says "NEW EDITION." I assume this was the book published in late 1833, the first employing the "Sketches and Eccentricities" title. The edition published earlier that year was titled "The Life and Adventures of..." My question now is - assuming the 258 page reprints are also scans - which edition were they taken from? If they are reprints of "The Life and Adventures," you'd think they'd be sold as such.When I was in London a couple of years ago I requested the book in the Rare Book room at the British Library. They trotted out a copy of the British edition, plus a thick 19th Century hardcover of another title that collected "Sketches" along with several other works not related to Crockett, so there's no telling where else this book may have appeared. In any case, it's nice to have it finally available to those of us who can't afford $500 for the original.
